Who We Are

IPCA GHANA is part of the Global Association, IPCA Worldwide, a global network of ordained Ministers and other Church leaders who reach out to prisoners and their families. IPCA, which has a Consultative status at the UN, also engages in Advocacy for the care of Prisoners and related issues.

IPCA GHANA is led by Rev Steve Mensah, an International Prison Evangelist with over 30 years of experience in Prison Ministry, also a retired Banker and author of ‘Not Guilty for Loving the Hated – a Call to Prison Ministry’. He is also the National Chairman of IPCA GHANA.

IPCA GHANA, which was formally launched in 2016 by the then Deputy Minister of Interior, Hon James Agalga, in conjunction with the Africa Chairman, Hon Rev Jean Dider Mboyo, has supported and continues to support prison inmates significantly in the areas of medical care, education, and nutrition, among others.

IPCA GHANA has also been very conspicuous in their Anti-Crime Talks to Senior High Schools which has approval from the Ghana Education Service. The talks aim at educating Senior High School students on actions that are taken for granted but can land one in jail. Leading Ghanaian Senior High Schools which have been Outreached with the Anti-Crime Talks include St Augustine’s College,  Mfantsipim School, Presbyterian SHS, Legon and Accra Girls Senior High School.

IPCA GHANA members have also been the most conspicuous Chaplains from Africa at International Prison Ministry Conferences like the World Conference in Bangkok, Thailand and the Poland International Prison Ministry Conference held in Lublin, late 2025 where it’s Chairman Rev Steve Mensah was one of the lead Facilitators.

IPCA GHANA head office is located inside Beracah House in Adabraka, Accra off the Kojo Thompson Road and is also active in the Central, Eastern , Western, Ashanti and Volta Regions.

IPCA GHANA

OBJECTIVES

  • IPCA GHANA, in line with its parent organisation, networks prison chaplains from various Christian denominations in Ghana to encourage and learn from one another, and to serve as a source of synergistic support in sharing the Word of God, as well as in offering medical, educational, and nutritional care to prisoners.

  • IPCA GHANA also consistently intercedes for inmates, their families and prison staff - a Global Prayer Day for Prison Ministry instituted by IPCA WORLDWIDE each year on August 25th adds momentum to the intercessory activity.

  • In the area of prevention, IPCA GHANA, with the approval of the Ghana Education Service, undertakes Anti-Crime Talks in Senior High Schools to educate students to avoid prison.

  • IPCA GHANA tries to monitor inmates leaving prison not to return to prison by giving assistance where necessary.
